Residential Repipe

A repipe is disruptive by nature. What separates a good one from a bad one is almost entirely the sequence.

New supply lines routed overhead through framing
New supply run during a repipe

A repipe replaces the supply lines through the house rather than patching whichever run failed this time. It is the right answer when the pipe material itself is at the end of its life, when leaks appear in different places, or when pressure has fallen off across the whole house rather than at one fixture.

We work in both PEX and copper. Each has real trade-offs in cost, routing, and how it behaves in a Houston attic through August. There is no universally correct answer, and we would be sceptical of a contractor who gives one without seeing the house.

The part we plan hardest is the sequence: which rooms lose water on which day, how a bathroom stays usable, where access is needed, and when the drywall crew follows us. In an occupied house that matters more to your week than the pipe material does.

Symptoms

When this is likely your problem

Pinhole leaks turning up in different places
Discoloured water at more than one fixture
Low pressure throughout the house rather than at one tap
Visible corrosion on exposed supply lines
Repair bills that are adding up to a repipe anyway

What drives the number

We quote after diagnosis, not before. These move the number most:

  • FIXTURESFixture count drives the run count more than square footage.
  • STORIESTwo-storey homes need more access points.
  • ACCESSAttic clearance and wall construction determine how hard the routing is.
  • MATERIALPEX or copper, and the fittings the job calls for.

Houston note

Houston attics run extremely hot in summer, which is a real consideration in repipe routing and one worth asking any contractor about. Where lines run through the attic, insulation and correct support matter more here than in a milder climate.

Process

What the visit involves

Walk the whole system

Every accessible run, not just the leak that prompted the call.

Agree the sequence

Which rooms lose water on which day, written down before we start.

Run and test

New supply installed and pressure tested before anything closes.

Hand off for restoration

Access left clean and ready for your finisher, or one we can refer.

FAQ

Questions about this service

How long does a repipe take?

Most run a few days depending on size, fixture count, and access. We give you a day count after walking the property, and more usefully a day-by-day plan of which areas lose water when.

Do we have to move out?

Usually not. We stage the work so part of the house has water most of the time and tell you in advance which days a bathroom is out. Expect noise and dust around access points.

PEX or copper?

Both are code-approved and both work. PEX is faster to install and more forgiving in tight routing; copper has a longer track record and some owners prefer it. We will lay out the real differences for your house rather than defaulting to one.

Who repairs the drywall?

Not us, and we say so upfront rather than leaving it ambiguous. We leave clean access and can refer a finisher, or coordinate with yours.
