Water Heater Installation

The unit is the easy part of this quote. What the replacement is required to add is where the surprises live.

Tankless heater with PEX manifold and distribution piping

We install tank and tankless units, and we treat this as a planned project rather than an emergency swap. That means measuring the space, checking the supply, and telling you upfront what a replacement is required to include that your current installation may not have.

Those requirements are the most common source of a quote changing on the day: expansion tank, drain pan and its drain line, correct venting, and adequate gas or electrical supply. A price that ignores them is not a real price, and we would rather lose a job on an honest number than win one on an incomplete one.

On tankless specifically, the conversion cost usually decides it rather than the unit price. A tankless unit frequently needs a larger gas line or heavier electrical service, and in some houses that is straightforward and in others it is the majority of the budget. We check before recommending.

What drives the number

We quote after diagnosis, not before. These move the number most:

  • TYPETank or tankless — different jobs with different prices.
  • LOCATIONAttic, garage, or closet, and how the unit gets there.
  • CODEWhat your current setup is missing that a replacement must add.
  • SUPPLYWhether gas or electrical capacity supports the chosen unit.

Houston note

A great many Houston water heaters sit in the attic, which is the worst place for one to fail unnoticed. If yours is up there, a working drain pan and a drain line that actually goes somewhere is the single most valuable thing to confirm — and it is often what a cheap quote leaves out.

FAQ

Questions about this service

Is tankless worth it in Houston?

Sometimes. It saves space and does not run out of hot water. But a conversion often needs a larger gas line or heavier electrical service, and that cost — not the unit price — is usually what decides it. We check supply capacity before recommending one.

Why is your quote higher than another one?

Frequently because ours includes the code-required items and theirs does not. Ask any competing quote whether it covers the expansion tank, pan and drain, and venting. If it does not, you are comparing two different jobs.

Can you install a unit I bought myself?

Often yes, though warranty registration and sizing are worth checking first. Send us the model before purchase if you can — sizing errors are expensive to discover on installation day.

How long does the installation take?

A straight like-for-like replacement is usually a single visit. Conversions, attic installations, and jobs needing code upgrades take longer. We give you a realistic duration after seeing the space.
